MAS in Technology and Public Policy

Starts every year in January. Applications are open 15 August to 15 November

Learning objectives

The Master of Advanced Studies in Technology and Public Policy (MAS TPP) degree equips participants with a comprehensive set of public policy analysis skills needed to address societal challenges and thrive at the intersection of technology and public policy in their current or future careers.

The MAS TPP degree covers the entire functional chain of policy analysis. It is structured around a public policy analysis framework that encompasses politics (the input into the policy process) and policy (the output of the policy process, such as laws and regulations), as well as the effects of these policies on technology and society (outcomes).

Structure and Components

The MAS TPP (60 ECTS) degree consists of the following components

The two core pillars of the MAS TPP are the two CAS TPP degrees that can be completed in any order. In addition, MAS TPP participants will broaden their horizon by taking elective courses which put science in perspective and apply what was learnt by carrying out a Policy Analysis Project supervised by an ETH Professor or Senior Researcher.

MAS-TPP

It is possible to upgrade to a MAS TPP degree after having completed one or both CAS TPP degrees. It is also possible to apply for the MAS TPP degree directly.

Schedule

The MAS TPP can be started with either of the two CAS TPP degrees in the spring semester of each year. The CAS TPP: Policy Process takes place in uneven and the CAS TPP: Impact Analysis in even years.

In part-time study mode, both CAS TPP degrees, the elective courses, and the Policy Analysis Project can be completed within approximately four semesters, i.e. two years.
